One minute, you’re having a friendly discussion about a topic you’re passionate about. The next, you’re raising your voice and fuming with anger. Studies show that our brains react to attack on our beliefs the same way as threats to our physical safety. That’s why any civil discussion can end up in violence when someone questions your competence, convictions, or even sanity.
